Before Care, After Care and Enrichment classes are available to all students in grades K-8. We are located in the cafeteria.
If you qualify for free or reduced lunch, you may qualify for reduced or waived fees in our program. Fee waiver forms are available in the main office or from After Care staff.
Our Before and After Care programs are open to any student at the Open Classroom grades K-8. Our programs will begin the first day of school, August 21st 2017.
Our Before School program is available Monday through Friday from 7:30-8:30 AM and is located in the cafeteria. There is no need to register for this service ahead of time. Just drop off your student as needed. Students will be offered quiet activities and some outdoor play time before going to class. New students will be accompanied to class when the bell rings until they are comfortable with their routine. They are welcome to bring breakfast with them.
The cost for Before Care is $5.00 for drop off before 8:00 am, and $2.50 for drop off after 8:00 am. We appreciate payment in advance.
Our After Care program is available Monday through Friday from 2:55-5:30 PM and is located in the cafeteria. We do not offer services on non-student days. You will need to register your student is advance for this service. You may download the registration form or get a hard copy from the office. Please fill out the form and return it to the office prior to the first day of school. We have a limited number of openings, so please register early to ensure your student gets a spot.
We offer students a variety of age appropriate activities from our caring and well trained staff. Students will receive snacks, structured and unstructured activities and playtime, as well as daily physical activities. We let the students have fun and be creative with their time. We believe that the After Care program is an extension of the Open Classroom and follow the same philosophy, guideline and agreements that students learn in the classroom. All students will need to be signed out by the parent, guardian or a responsible adult before your student is allowed to leave campus.
The cost for After Care is $5.00 per hour, or $10.00 for the entire day. We appreciate payment in advance. You will be emailed a statement at the end of each month. We accept check or cash only. You may write a check to The Open Classroom with “After Care” in the memo. You may give payments to the After Care staff, or the office.
There is a late fee of $5.00 for every 5 minutes your student is picked up. Fees will be billed at the end of each month and are due upon receipt. We reserve the right to ask your student to not attend our program if you have a past due balance.
DROP IN CARE
If you do not need to register your student on a continual basis but may need child care from time to time, we offer what we call Drop In Care. You will need to fill out a Drop In Request form in advance. You can download the form or get a hard copy in the office. It is important that this form be filled out so that we will know to expect your student and ensure that we have contact information for your student. We understand that emergencies happen. If you cannot fill out a form please notify the office or After Care Director, Jazairra Mathis, as soon as you know that your student will be using our service.
The cost for Drop In Care is $5.50 per hour, or $11.00 for the entire day.
We do offer after school enrichment classes for students K-8. Classes typically begin in September. Some of our previously offered classes include Spanish, Mad Science, Bricks-4-Kidz, Cooking, Tap, Yoga, Art, Jr. Lego League, Ceramics, Drums and Guitar. Please look for information about these classes on OCNews, the OC Newsletter and in your classroom.
Questions or comments? Please contact program Director Jazairra Mathis, at Jazairra.Mathis @ slcschools.org.
We are so happy to be able to provide this program for our Open Classroom community. Our staff strives to provide a fun, comfortable and nurturing environment for all of our enrolled children. Because we are an elective program and want to foster a safe environment for all of our children, we will ask any children who do not meet our expectations to no longer attend our program. We will do our best as a staff to address any behavior and concerns we have with you before making this decision.
