Library Mission
The Open Classroom is a community of learners in which the students, parents and teachers actively participate in creating and maintaining a meaningful, purposeful learning environment.
The OC Library collaborates with the classes to expand the learning community to help students:
- Explore their interests, building upon prior knowledge and expanding their understanding;
- Engage directly in their own education to become self-directed, life-long learners;
- Share their work with the entire learning community.
The library and the library web-site seek to:
- Provide access to a universal library that can be accessed anytime, anywhere;
- Provide access to quality, developmentally appropriate Internet resources for children, young adults and their adult friends and care-takers who participate in their education;
- Provide access to school and community information;
- Encourage students to never cease being curious or stop learning;
- Support the curriculum of teachers;
- Provide a safe forum for students to share their writing, artwork, music and other projects.;
- Provide a comfortable forum for students, teachers, and co-opers to discuss the books they’re reading, projects they’re making, and things they’re thinking about.
