We are accepting applications for the 2010/11 school year.
Admission is open to all students entering grades K – 8.
Before you apply to the Open Classroom Charter School, we want to make sure you understand that this is a unique charter school!
Take some time to look at the Philosophy and Family Involvement pages on this website. These pages will give you some idea of what we stand for and what we will ask of your family.
Visiting the Open Classroom
We strongly urge you to attend a tour to see what we’re all about.
Open House:
Our open houses provide an opportunity to meet and ask questions of families who attend the OC. Open houses are intended for parents/guardians and other interested adults.
There are generally 3 open houses held throughout the year. One during the late fall, one in early winter, and one in the spring.
Tours:
Open Classroom Tours are led by parent volunteers. Tours are intended for parents/guardians and other interested adults.
During an Open Classroom tour, you will have an opportunity to:
- Hear some information about the OC
- Observe one or more classrooms
- Ask questions
Tours begin at 9 am in the library, on the upper level of the Lowell building, at 134 D Street [map]. Plan for the tour to last about 1 to 1 1/2 hours.
Tours will happen on the following Tuesdays:
- November 17
- December 1 and 15
- January 5 and 19
- February 2, 9* and 23
- March 9 and 23
- April 13 and 27
- May 11
* Last tour before February 19th deadline for open enrollment
Observe a Classroom:
If you have attended a tour and want to learn more, we encourage you to observe a classroom in action. You may come alone, or your child is welcome to come with you.
Call the main office at 801-578-8144 or email Carolyn to be put in touch with a teacher who will schedule a time for you to visit.
Logistics
There are parking restrictions in the neighborhood around our campus and you may need to allow extra time to find an appropriate parking space.
We are unable to accommodate children during open houses and on the tours. We ask that you arrange child care in advance. Your child is welcome to visit the school at another time.
The Admission Process
Fill out an online application form, -OR- mail, fax, or hand deliver one to the main office. You can download the form here, pick one up in our office, or call 801-578-8144 and we’ll send one to you by mail.
After the application deadline, each applicant will be assigned a number in a random lottery. The lowest numbers will be given first access to any available spaces.
If your child is offered a space, we ask that you please let us know by the deadline (stated in the letter you will receive) whether or not you plan to enroll your child. If we do not hear from you, we will offer the space to a student on the waiting list.
Your child’s chances of being admitted vary, depending on how many applicants are applying and the number of available spaces.
If spaces are still available, we may extend the application deadline and admit students on a first-come, first-served basis.
For questions related to Admissions, please contact the Registrar at 801-587-8144 or registrar@ocslc.org
